THE PRICELY BUYING GUIDE

Best mockup generators and AI image tools for creators (2026)

9 tools compared · Prices checked 3 Nov 2026

About our affiliate links

Most visuals a solo creator needs fall into three kinds: original images made with AI, mockups that put your design on a phone, a laptop or a T-shirt, and illustrations for a website or slides. Almost every tool here has a free tier, so you can try two or three before paying.

The detail that matters most in this category is the licence. Several free tiers are for personal use only or need a credit link, and some cheap paid plans still leave out commercial rights. If the image will sell something, check the licence line before the price. Plans and terms were read from each tool's own pricing and terms pages on 3 Nov 2026.

Quick picks

  • Cheapest unlimited mockups: Placeit, $7.47/mo, with commercial use and more than 160,000 mockups.
  • Mockups from inside Figma: Mockuuups Studio, 5,200+ mockups with Figma, Sketch and Penpot plugins.
  • Illustrations you can use commercially without credit: GetIllustrations, $195 a year for all illustration packs.
  • AI images with commercial rights: OpenArt Plus, $27/mo billed yearly. The cheaper Starter plan does not include commercial use.
  • Free page wireframes: MockFlow Basic, with 100 AI credits a month.

AI image generators

Describe an image and get one back. Useful for thumbnails, backgrounds, characters and concept art.

OpenArt

from $14/mo

Free plan: Limited free credits

OpenArt brings more than 100 image, video and audio models into one place, with consistent characters across images and camera angle control. Starter costs $14/mo ($13/mo billed yearly) for 4,000 credits, which OpenArt says covers up to about 4,000 images or 50 videos, without a watermark. Commercial use rights start on Plus at $34/mo ($27/mo yearly).

Purchases are non-refundable, so use the free credits to judge the models first.

On Trustpilot, OpenArt scores 3.5 from 1,671 reviews. Reviewers find it easy and fast with helpful support; some complain about how quickly credits run out.

Pick it if you want many models and recurring characters in one tool. Choose Plus if images will be used to sell anything.

If you download anything, there is a 1 month minimum; you keep your downloads after cancelling.

On Trustpilot, Placeit scores 2.1 from 1,322 reviews. Beginners find it easy, but reviewers report a harder interface after a redesign and being billed for a year when they expected a month.

How this guide was put together

The tool list comes from the guides that rank highest for this job, Zapier, TechRadar on image generators and TechRadar on mockup software, plus tools that run partner programs. Plans, licences and terms come from each tool's own pricing and terms pages, read on 3 Nov 2026. User ratings and review themes come from each tool's Trustpilot page, read the same day; they reflect what reviewers chose to post, not a survey of all users.
