THE PRICELY BUYING GUIDE

Best AI clip and caption tools for Shorts, Reels and TikTok (2026)

9 tools compared · Prices checked 3 Nov 2026

About our affiliate links

If you record long videos, podcasts or live streams, most of your reach on TikTok, Reels and Shorts will come from clips cut out of them. The tools here handle three parts of that job: finding and captioning the clips, editing the full recording, and capturing or repurposing the show in the first place.

Prices in this group look similar, around $15 to $39 a month for the first paid plan. What differs is what a credit means, whether your exports disappear after a few days, and whether you can get your money back. Most of these companies say plainly that payments are non-refundable, so the free plan or trial is your only test drive. Plans and terms below were read from each tool's own pricing and terms pages on 3 Nov 2026.

Quick picks

  • Best free plan for clips: Quso, 75 credits a month (one credit is about one minute of video), at 720p with a watermark.
  • Credits that roll over: OpusClip Pro, $14.5/mo billed yearly, keeps unused credits for 2 months.
  • Editing a podcast like a document: Descript, free for 1 media hour a month, $16/mo billed yearly after that.
  • Live shows and interviews: StreamYard, free with a logo, $14.99/mo billed yearly without the 2 hour recording cap.
  • Free forever: Audacity, open source audio editing with no subscription and no watermark.

How these tools were compared

This guide is built from what each company publishes. For every tool it checks the same things:

  • What the free plan or trial lets you export: resolution, watermark, how long exports are kept.
  • The first paid plan, monthly and yearly, and what a credit or media hour buys.
  • Whether unused credits roll over.
  • Refund and cancellation terms.

Short clips and captions

Upload a long video and these tools pick the moments worth posting, reframe them vertically and add captions.

Quso

Visit Quso PartnerFreemium

from $29/mo

Free plan: 75 credits/month, 720p, watermark

No Trustpilot score listedPricing page

Quso turns long videos into short captioned clips and adds a subtitle generator, a content planner and social scheduling. Its pricing page says one credit is roughly one minute of processed video, which makes plans easy to size.

The free plan gives 75 credits a month, so you could process a 75 minute podcast every month, but clips export at 720p with a quso.ai watermark. Lite is $29/mo for 100 credits and unlimited 1080p clips without a watermark; Essential is $39/mo for 300 credits and Growth $49/mo for 600. Yearly billing costs the same per month. Its terms say payments are non-refundable, including unused minutes.

Pick it if you want the largest free allowance to learn the workflow before paying.

OpusClip

from $15/mo

Free plan: 60 credits, watermark, exports kept 3 days

OpusClip calls itself the number one AI clipping tool. Beyond clipping it reframes video for vertical formats, adds animated captions and B-roll, and can schedule posts.

The free plan's 60 credits come with a watermark, and exports expire after 3 days, so download clips right away. Starter costs $15/mo, monthly only, with 150 credits and no watermark, though exports still expire after 29 days. Pro is $29/mo, or $14.5/mo billed yearly, with 300 credits a month, export to Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, and unused credits that roll over for 2 months.

On Trustpilot, OpusClip scores 4.0 from 513 reviews. Reviewers call it a big time-saver with a simple interface and helpful support; the complaints are occasional bugs and a weak manual editor.

Pick it if you edit clips further in a desktop editor, or if your output varies month to month and rollover matters.

Submagic

Visit Submagic PartnerFree trial

from $19/mo

Trial: Trial exports carry a watermark

Submagic focuses on editing shorts quickly: AI captions, auto editing, clipping, AI actors and translation. Plans are priced per member. Starter is $19/mo ($12/mo billed yearly) for 45 credits and up to 15 videos a month; Pro is $39/mo ($23/mo yearly) for 40 videos and adds Storyblocks B-roll and music.

The free trial watermarks exports. Its terms state that all monthly and annual fees are non-refundable, and cancelling takes effect at the end of the billing cycle.

On Trustpilot, Submagic scores 4.5 from 857 reviews. Reviewers praise how fast captions and clips are generated, and say support answers billing and technical questions quickly.

Pick it if your main need is styled captions on clips you have already cut, and you post a handful of shorts each week.

CapCut

See pricing

Free plan: Basic tools, 7-day Pro trial

CapCut is a free editor on desktop, web and phone, with auto captions, text to speech, noise reduction and background removal. The free tier covers basic editing and templates; premium AI tools and Pro templates need a subscription. CapCut shows prices in local currency, so check its pricing page from your country. There is a 7-day Pro trial that needs no credit card.

On Trustpilot, CapCut scores 1.2 from 1,380 reviews. Most recent reviewers report unexpected subscription charges, trouble cancelling, and exports or captions that fail.

Pick it if you want a free editor you can use on your phone for TikTok and Shorts.

Edit by text, full editors

For cleaning up the whole recording before clips are cut from it.

Descript

from $24/mo

Free plan: 1 media hour/month, 720p

Descript transcribes your recording and lets you edit it by editing the text. Around that it adds multitrack audio, a screen recorder, Studio Sound for cleaner voice, eye contact correction and captions.

The free plan includes 1 media hour a month, 100 one-time AI credits and 720p export without a watermark. Hobbyist costs $24/mo ($16/mo yearly) for 10 media hours and 1080p; Creator is $35/mo ($24/mo yearly) for 30 hours and 4K. One detail to know: media hours count everything you upload or record, transcribed or not.

On Trustpilot, Descript scores 2.6 from 292 reviews. Recent reviewers report a buggy, slow app and AI features they find expensive and unreliable for the money.

Pick it if you edit podcasts or talking-head videos and think in sentences rather than timelines.

Filmora

See pricing

Free plan: Trial exports carry a watermark

Filmora is a desktop editor with motion tracking, 4K export and a large asset library. It is sold yearly or as a one-time licence: Basic at $49.99 a year, Advanced at $59.99 a year with 1,000 AI credits a month, or a perpetual licence at $79.99 that only gets updates within the current major version and is tied to one device.

The trial exports with a watermark. Unused AI credits are taken back when the next month's credits arrive.

On Trustpilot, Filmora scores 4.1 from 15,723 reviews. Reviewers find it easy for beginners; the recurring complaint is unexpected extra charges.

Pick it if you prefer a classic timeline on your own computer and would rather pay once a year than monthly.

Record, stream, repurpose

Tools for the recording itself, and for turning it into written posts afterwards.

StreamYard

from $18.99/mo

Free plan: 2 h recording/month, StreamYard logo

StreamYard is a browser studio for live streams, recorded interviews with guests and webinars. The free plan shows a StreamYard logo, allows 6 people on screen and 2 hours of local recording a month.

Essential is $18.99/mo ($14.99/mo yearly) with unlimited streaming to 2 destinations in 1080p. To remove the logo you need Core at $44.99/mo ($35.99/mo yearly), which also gives unlimited local recordings. StreamYard offers a 7-day money-back guarantee on the first charge.

On Trustpilot, StreamYard scores 4.1 from 520 reviews. Reviewers describe it as easy and reliable for daily live shows and like its steady stream of new features.

Pick it if you host a live show or record remote interviews. Note that the logo stays until the Core plan.

Castmagic

from $19/mo billed yearly

No free plan listed

No Trustpilot score listedPricing page

Castmagic transcribes audio and video, adds timestamps, and writes show notes, posts and other content from each episode, with a chat to ask questions about your recordings. Plans are billed yearly: Hobby at $19/mo ($239 a year) for a 30 hour library, Starter at $48/mo for 100 hours.

There is a free trial but no permanent free plan. Its terms say payments are non-refundable unless stated otherwise.

Pick it if you publish a podcast every week and spend hours writing notes and posts for each episode.

Audacity

$0

Free plan: Everything, no watermark

No Trustpilot score listedPricing page

Audacity is a free, open source audio editor and recorder with noise reduction, a compressor, vocal removal and AI transcription. There is no subscription and no watermark, and its FAQ says it will stay free. It runs on your computer, not in the browser.

Pick it as the first tool for a new podcast, before paying for anything else.

What to check before you commit

  • Refunds. Submagic, Quso and Castmagic all state that payments are non-refundable. StreamYard is the exception with 7 days.
  • Export expiry. OpusClip deletes free exports after 3 days and Starter exports after 29 days.
  • What counts as usage. Quso counts minutes processed; Descript counts every hour uploaded or recorded, transcribed or not.
  • Logos. StreamYard keeps its logo on streams until the Core plan.
  • Yearly-only pricing. Castmagic and Filmora only sell yearly plans, so the monthly figure is a yearly bill divided by twelve.

Which one should you pick?

  • You want clips from a weekly podcast at no cost: Quso's free plan, then Lite when the watermark bothers you.
  • You post clips most days and want headroom: OpusClip Pro, for rollover and editor export.
  • You need clean edits of the full episode: Descript.
  • You host live: StreamYard.
  • You are just starting: Audacity and CapCut, both free.

How this guide was put together
